Andreas Jawlensky

Preli/Lettland 1902 - Barga/Italien 1984

Andreas Jawlensky was born in Ansbaki near Preli, Russia, in 1902. He was the only child of Alexei von Jawlensky and Helene Nesnakomoff. By the time he was five years old, Andreas was painting with his father and showed great talent at an early age.
He collaborated most closely with his father during the years spent by the family in Zurich between 1917 and 1921. Initially inspired by van Gogh, Andreas Jawlensky later turned to Expressionism. His motifs were Russian people and Russian scenery.
Andreas Jawlensky died at Barga in 1984.
